isn’t a word to best classify the AFC Championship Game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and New England Patriots, though “intriguing” is perhaps one of the first that springs to mind for most.

It’s not hard to see why. These Jaguars and quarterback Blake Bortles just took down the 13-win Pittsburgh Steelers, spoiling the AFC title game most thought they’d see, all while talking boatloads of trash in the process.

The Patriots are still the Patriots, though an injury Tom Brady suffered in practice has made the outlook somewhat mysterious.

Stat Predictions

The Jaguars aren’t blinking in the face of Brady, even at Foxborough, Massachusetts.

So it goes for a team that went into Pittsburgh and earned a 45-42 win after jumping out to a 21-0 advantage and holding on tight. Bortles only threw one touchdown, but running back Leonard Fournette bruised his way to 109 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries.

It wasn’t a great day at the office for the Jaguars defense after a few splash plays helped Ben Roethlisberger work his way to five touchdown passes. Don’t tell that to Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey, though, who sounds more than up to the task of lining up against Rob Gronkowski, as captured by Around The NFL:

Brady and the Patriots, though, have taken more of a respect-thy-opponent approach, especially when it comes to Ramsey.

“He’s a really good player. I have watched a ton of film on him,” Brady said, according to Stats LLC (via “He has a lot of strengths. He’s obviously very confident. That is reflected in how he plays. I am more concerned about how he plays [as] opposed to what he says.”

Still, covering Gronkowski isn’t an easy task. He led the Patriots in receiving this year, catching 69 passes for 1,084 yards and eight touchdowns, then touched up the Tennessee Titans in the first playoff game via six catches for 81 yards and a score.

Even against an elite Jaguars defense, Gronkowski figures to have a big game, provided Brady is his usual self.

That’s the big question now, right? According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Brady’s hand was “a bloody mess” after contact with a teammate, though the quarterback himself doesn’t sound too concerned about the situation, as explained by Mark Maske of the Washington Post:

This was bound to be a close game either way before the injury. Brady would still have to counteract a 55-sack Jaguars defense through quick outs and capitalizing on mismatches.

One of those key areas comes from the New England backfield, something Jaguars linebacker Myles Jack wasn’t shy about addressing when asked.

“They have, I really want to say, like a three-headed monster,” Jack said, according to Phillip Heilman of “They’re all fast, shifty guys. They can all catch the ball out of the backfield.”

Indeed, the trio of Dion Lewis, James White and Rex Burkhead accounted for 11 rushing scores during the regular season, as well as 118 catches. This short-passing attack doesn’t only neutralize the pass rush of a team like Jacksonville, it essentially works as the running game and helps the offense control time of possession and field position.

Call it the X-factor between these two powerhouses. Brady might not be 100 percent, but his ability to read coverages and make the right decisions is unmatched, and zipping the ball between the line of scrimmage and intermediate range shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

When it comes down to it, Brady securing a lead means forcing Bortles to the air, which creates a predictable result.

At the start of 2017, plenty were questioning whether Federer would ever add to his haul of Grand Slam titles. He went on to win two in the year.

The first came in Melbourne, as he and Nadal rolled back the years to deliver a classic five-set final. For Federer, it was a triumph that recharged him early in the campaign, and that renewed belief was on show when he added another Wimbledon title to his haul.

The signs have been positive for Federer again as he gears up for the defence of his Australian Open title.

As noted by journalist Simon Haring, Switzerland’s win in the recent Hopman Cup was a reminder of the longevity he has showcased:

In addition to his own excellent form, a number of Federer’s major rivals are absent—Andy Murray will miss the competition—or have had doubts over their fitness in the buildup to the tournament. Nadal, Djokovic and Wawrinka have all had issues to contend with as of late.

It was Nadal who triumphed in the other two Grand Slam events last season, and while his warm-up for the tournament has been low-key to this point, tennis writer Tumaini Carayol commented on how impressive he looked in a recent win over Lucas Pouille:

While there appear to be a select few with the quality to triumph in the men’s bracket, in the women’s singles, it’s difficult to select a favourite.

Serena Williams was expected to return to the court to defend the title she won a year ago, but she confirmed a week ago she wasn’t ready to play after her recent hiatus due to her pregnancy. It gives the rest of the field a massive opportunity.

In 2017 Ostapenko, Muguruza and Sloane Stephens made the most of her absence. By contrast, Halep, in a theme that has come to define her career so far, was unable to produce her best when it mattered.

She lost the final of the French Open to Ostapenko, fell out of the quarter-finals at Wimbledon and suffered first-round losses in Australia and the U.S. Open.

Halep appears to be in fine form, though, as she was excellent in winning the Shenzhen Open; as we can see here per the WTA, she thrilled the crowd with her shot-making:

Of the other Grand Slam winners from 2017, Muguruza is undoubtedly one to watch, as she often brings her best to the big occasion. The Spaniard has already won at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, and she will be keen to show she can compete on hard courts, too.

Wozniacki is the second-highest ranked player in the field and has enjoyed a renaissance in her career as of late.

As relayed by Ben Rothenberg of the New York Times, it’s been a while since the Dane was seeded so highly at such a prestigious event:

Given his excellent preparation and sparkling recent form. it’s tough to see past Federer winning the men’s prize for what’d be a sixth time—especially given the doubts over Nadal and Djokovic pre-tournament.

Halep will view this as an enormous chance to break her Grand Slam duck and should be bristling with confidence following her rise to world No. 1 late last season. It will be far from straightforward, but she will finally hold things together and clinch the prize her talent deserves.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

Chelsea vs. Arsenal: Preview, Live Stream, TV Info for Carabao Cup semi-final,2018 Live Stream Online,TV Info for Carabao Cup 2018.Chelsea and Arsenal will lock horns for the second time in a week on Wednesday in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

The two sides went up against one another in the Premier League last Wednesday and played out a pulsating 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium. Those who frequent Stamford Bridge will be hoping for a similarly absorbing encounter.

Of course, the two sets of fans will be desperate to see their respective teams take an advantage into the second leg. Given neither side has realistic hopes of winning the Premier League title, this competition takes on added significance, too.

Here are the key viewing details for this clash and a preview of what promises to be another brilliant London derby.

In recent years, matches between Chelsea and Arsenal have often been tense and tight affairs. In the Premier League a week ago, they conjured up a classic.

Hector Bellerin snatched a late equaliser for the Gunners in a breathless match and one both sets of supporters would have been disappointed to lose. As noted below, the contest had a bit of everything:

Wednesday’s meeting at Stamford Bridge has a lot to live up to as a result, although a semi-final should bring out the best in some of the excellent players on show.

Both teams have had to battle to make it this far. Chelsea eventually made it into the last four with a stoppage-time winner from Alvaro Morata against Bournemouth, just seconds after the Cherries had equalised through Dan Gosling.

It was one of the moments of the season for the Blues and a sign this is a team desperate to do well in this competition.

It will be interesting to see what sort of XI Chelsea manager Antonio Conte does field. As noted by Liam Twomey of ESPN FC, in the past he’s insisted fringe players who have been involved in the competition throughout should keep their place:

However, with the finishing line in sight and numerous key men rested on Saturday in the FA Cup tie against Norwich City, there may be a place for some star performers to come back in.

The same goes for Arsenal. Manager Arsene Wenger will want to continue the club’s positive recent record in cup competitions, and while finishing in the top four will no doubt be a priority for the Gunners, chances to win trophies must be cherished.

In the previous round, when Arsenal won 1-0 against West Ham United, Wenger used the game to give run-outs to the likes of Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott. Jack Pitt-Brooke of The Independent believes the former still has something to offer the Gunners:

Chelsea are a tough side to beat at Stamford Bridge, and with that in mind, Wenger should be looking to field a strong XI to ensure his team remain in the tie.

The approach Arsenal take will be fascinating. While they were happy to fly forward at home to Chelsea a week ago, they were content to sit deep and seek to stifle their opponents when they visited Stamford Bridge earlier in the campaign, eventually earning a 0-0 draw.

Wenger would take that again, you sense, and Arsenal may put a little more emphasis on defence than they normally would as a result. Even so, on home soil you would back the Blues to find a way of taking a lead back to the Emirates.

AP PREVIEW: Alabama and Georgia showed that talk of the Southeastern Conference losing some of its might was very much overblown.

At least at the top, the SEC still owns bragging rights in college football.

A ninth national title in the past 12 seasons is for the conference as the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs meet Monday night in the heart of SEC country at Atlanta’s new $1.6 billion Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Alabama, playing in its third straight College Football Playoff championship game, is seeking its fifth national title in nine years under coach Nick Saban.

Georgia, which hired former Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Kirby Smart away from Alabama two years ago, is trying to join the recent list of SEC winners after not claiming the national championship since the 1980 season.

“I’m proud of the SEC and I’m proud of the competition in our league,” Saban said. “Kirby has done a great job and has Georgia playing really well.”

The only other time that two teams from the same conference played for the title was at the end of the 2011 season, when it was also an SEC exclusive. Alabama defeated Louisiana State near the end of the two-team Bowl Championship Series, which began with the 1998 season.

Since the four-team playoff debuted for the 2014 season, no conference had gained more than one representative until this season, and many voiced displeasure that Alabama — which didn’t make the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta — was included along with Georgia.

The Crimson Tide (12-1) showed they belonged, though, with a 24-6 victory over defending national champ Clemson at the Sugar Bowl in a semifinal rematch of last year’s title game.

“We wanted to prove that the naysayers and doubters were wrong and we hadn’t lost anything,” said Alabama defensive tackle Da’Ron Payne, who had a key interception and even caught a touchdown pass against Clemson.

Georgia (13-1) had already assured that one SEC team would be playing for the title by edging Oklahoma 54-48 in double-overtime at the Rose Bowl on Sony Michel’s touchdown run. The Bulldogs rallied from a 31-14 deficit in the second quarter to beat the Sooners.

“They say adversity kind of reveals character,” Smart said. “I think it exposes character, for sure. We found out we’ve got a pretty good character team.”
